GOLDFIELD GHOST TOWN

On Saturday we spent the afternoon at the Goldfield Ghost Town.  It's a little town about 20 minutes from Mesa that was a mining town back in 1890.

It was a little hot (only about 110 degrees), but we managed to have a really fun time touring the town......

We took the underground mine tour and got to see this very exciting piece of equipment that they use to use 100 years ago.  If you can't tell it's a toilet!  :).....

The quality of this picture is awful, but look closely at Rena's face -- can you tell that she HATED the underground tour?  She could not wait to get outta there......

After the mine tour we went through a "Mystery Shack".  Spooky things happen in this house that defy gravity -- people walk at 45 degree angles, water runs up instead of down, the pool table ball can not be hit straight and will not go to certain holes.  It's spooky!......

There is also this chair that you can sit in, but can not get out of.  They asked for volunteers to sit in the chair and race a 10-pound ball that rolls up the walls (instead of down).  Rena thought she was really funny and volunteered me to do it.  They weren't joking - it was tough getting out of that chair.  I lost - the ball beat me!......

Our final adventure was riding the Superstition Narrow Gauge Railroad.  It circled the town and we learned interesting facts about the town, The Superstition Mountains and the Southwest Desert......

We were impressed by this big cactus......
